I bought a new Tamron 150-600mm lenses just before Christmas, but during the break I fell sick for three weeks and never had the chance to use it. Itching to try it out, I went out to a local state park during lunch to see how it worked. Mostly, it was for me to work on my skills at panning and focusing on moving objects.

Osprey
While watching the hawk, I noticed another bird near the hawk and thought it was the mate, but it turned out to be an Osprey and it’s mate.

Double-Crested Cormorant
I was watching up river, waiting to see if the Canadian Geese were going to fly towards me when I noticed the Cormorant fly by me up river. I knew it had a mate, so I watched down river for it to follow and I was not disappointed.

I learned a few things today while shooting. I was so focused {no pun intended} on my subjects that I forgot to check my settings for the different light conditions. After awhile, I put my camera into shutter mode with a setting of 1600. The hard part is recognizing the different situations, still vs in-motion subjects and reacting quickly to changing the settings to depending on the subject.
